Selecting the Candidate

The search committee should select the best-qualified candidate(s) for referral to the hiring official based on advertised position requirements, candidates' qualifications, and diversity objectives. When two or more candidates possess equivalent qualifications, the committee should select and refer the candidate who will contribute to the diversity of the department or unit.

Remember, it is discriminatory to base your decision on any of the following:

  • race
  • color
  • religion
  • sex
  • age
  • disability
  • national origin
  • veteran status
  • genetic information
  • sexual orientation
  • gender expression
  • gender identity

The hiring official should select the candidate of choice and make a recommendation to the dean (or other responsible senior official).
