Principles for Taiji Practice

 

1. Keep pelvic center at constant distance from ground when performing forward/back and right/left movements. Mechanically, this assures that your motion and power achieve the most efficient vector possible.

2. Emphasize filling the empty leg when transferring weight from leg to leg. Imagine that your empty knee is being gently pulled in the direction of motion and that the full leg’s knee simply unhinges without pushing up. This ensures a smooth, level motion from empty to full.
