Philosophy: Flow

A consequence of understanding the limiting nature of opposites and a belief in constant state is awareness of how movement and energetic flow and transitions can release us from the limitations of "position". In the Taiji way of looking at things, “going with the flow” is a more useful way of adapting to inevitable change. Water and young bamboo, therefore, are traditionally popular symbols for flexibility in Oriental thought.

Water doesn’t resist obstacles, it simply goes around or, eventually, wears them down. Bamboo sags under the winter snow, but as soon as the thaw comes, the bamboo springs back again.
Water and Bamboo are often used symbols in Daoist and Taiji thought.

Likewise, the Taiji symbol with its implied sense of rotating Yin and Yang reminds us that flexibility and awareness of changing circumstances and conditions is an important and useful quality to cultivate if we wish to adapt, grow and be natural.
