Jan Campbell. The Santa Barbara Foundation's Chief Philanthropic Officer and Senior Vice President, Ms. Campbell is responsible for all donor services, including gifts, grants, planned giving, as well as engagement and education. Last week, Rubayi Estes, a Community Investment Officer at the Santa Barbara Foundation, and I joined Foundation donor Eric Schwartz in a visit to Burton High School, which is located in a working class area of San Francisco. This high school, as well as a feeder middle school, use a form of transcendental meditation to help teens master self- control, reduce stress and, ultimately, succeed academically and personally. This assembly celebrated the success of the program and featured a visit from United States Surgeon General Vice Admiral (VADM) Vivek H. Murthy, M.D., M.B.A., who participated in the group meditation and facilitated a discussion with students who shared their personal insights on what having 15 minutes of “quiet time” meditation twice a day has done for them.
