Advertising Widely

Search committees should tailor their recruitment plan for advertising and outreach to produce the desired results. The position should be advertised widely; this may include going beyond traditional methods of identifying applicants. Equal opportunity and affirmative action laws require openly advertising university positions so that all qualified persons have the opportunity to apply. UNC Chapel Hill requires that vacant EHRA positions be advertised for at least 14-30 days before the application deadline see EHRA Recruitment Posting Periods for more information.

There is a wide variety of advertising sources you can tap to recruit candidates. Consider publications such as the Chronicle of Higher Education, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education, and local newspapers. You might also try mailing or emailing vacancy notices to graduate departments, professional journals, web recruitment boards, professional associations, electronic newsletters, and newsgroups. National newspapers, and discipline-specific publications are viable advertising options.

Advertisements should always include the EEO statement for the University: "The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is an Equal Opportunity Employer" or "EOE."

The advertisement should include the Direct Job Posting URL: jobs.unc.edu/xxxxxxx
(xxxxxxx in the URL is the Recruitment ID number for job posting)
