Edward V. Ellis, MPH, PhD, was the second African American to receive a PhD degree from the UNC school of public health (Department of Health Education). He went on a distinguished career, including serving as Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.

February 9, 1924 - January 14, 2023. A memorial service for family and friends to celebrate his wonderful life will be held 11:00 am Saturday March 25, 2023 at First Baptist Church, Raleigh NC.
